UPDATE: For a post-walk update, see bottom of this post.

Hi, readers! Heads up: This week’s post is not about Las Vegas. It’s personal. If you’re not interested in personal, feel free to skip it. You won’t hurt my feelings.

Now then….

I’ve been writing about solo travel to Las Vegas on this blog since 2010. It’s been my pleasure to share my thoughts on the city and to encourage others to try a solo Vegas trip. What keeps me going as a blogger is feedback from you (via comments, email, Facebook or Twitter). I’ve heard from many of you about how you’ve enjoyed this blog, how much it’s helped you, and that you’re glad you discovered it. Your words mean the world to me.

If you’ve ever wondered how you might support me and this blog in a more tangible way, this is it–and it’s for a great cause:

On September 18, 2016, I’m participating in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s. Funds raised during the Walk go toward Alzheimer’s research, care for patients with Alzheimer’s and support for their families who are caring for them. Alzheimer’s is the 6th leading cause of death in the U.S. It’s the only disease among the top 10 that cannot be prevented, slowed, or cured. Currently, one in three seniors dies with Alzheimer’s or another dementia. Those of you who are gamblers know those are not great odds for any of us.

My team of three set a pretty modest goal which we’ve already surpassed, but with 2 weeks left to go before the Walk, I wanted to see if I could raise even more money for the cause. If you’d like to help, you can donate at my fundraising page:

If you do, I’d love to know you are a reader of The Vegas Solo; please leave a comment on my fundraising page saying so. Of course, you can also donate Anonymously if you’d prefer.

Thanks for reading. I’ll be writing more about Las Vegas soon, don’t worry.

Post-Walk Update:

A huge thank you to those of you who sent me words of encouragement and donations for my team for the Walk to End Alzheimers in September!  Thanks to many generous donors, my team and I went 142% over our $1,000 goal to raise $1,415!

The forecast had called for rain that day, but the weather turned out to be beautiful. We were just three of over one thousand people who gathered for the cause. The walk took place at Shelburne Museum, one of Vermont’s best museums (do visit if you’re ever in Vermont!) and a lovely place for a walk like this, with lots of interesting things to look at along the way.

We were surprised by singer Grace Potter, who was one of several speakers who spoke passionately that day about the need to raise money to support Alzheimers research, support and awareness efforts. Our local baseball team mascot, Champ, also showed up to lend support.  🙂  We were happy to have played a small part in the Walk and all agreed we’ll do it again next year.
