You may recall from my last blog post before I left for Las Vegas that I had hoped to pull together the “first annual” Vegas Solo meetup during my trip. Well, mission accomplished! On Tuesday, September 6, I met up with Janice and Nate at the Cosmopolitan’s Chandelier Bar. As promised, it was a very casual gathering. We chatted for a while, got to know each other, shared Vegas stories and plans, had some laughs, and drank very pricey cocktails. The three of us represented three different parts of the US–Nate the West Coast, Janice the Midwest, and me the East Coast.
We even took photos to commemorate the occasion. Thankfully, Janice’s came out great, because mine were blurry. Meetup commemorative photo, courtesy of Janice Miller:
Thanks again to Nate and Janice for the great company and conversation!
To those of you who didn’t make the meetup, I’m sorry I missed you! But I can’t say I’m surprised. There are so many distractions in Las Vegas and it’s very easy to lose track of time.
Maybe next year.
Yes, I will make this meet up an annual thing. I generally travel to Las Vegas during Labor Day week, but will try to give plenty of lead time if I’m going to be in town at a different (or additional) time next year.
But don’t wait for me if you want to meet up with others during your Vegas travels! Why not set up something of your own before your trip, or join one that’s already been scheduled? I’ve met a number of people–both Vegas visitors and residents–at meet-and-greets set up via online Vegas message forums and Twitter. Here are some forums you can check out and see if there are any meet ups while you’re in town:
Just remember these 2 meetup tips:
1. Keep an open mind about the people you meet; they may not be the same age as you, or have the same politics or the same interests, other than Vegas. Who cares? It’s just an hour out of your life. Broaden your horizons.
2. Always stay in public places with people you’ve just met–especially if you’re a woman traveling alone.

Thanks for setting this up – I had a great time meeting you and Janice, and I’ll definitely try to make the next one. Good advice about organizing a meetup, too. As much fun as it is to go solo, talking with fellow travelers is a great way to spend an afternoon.
What a fun idea AND love the fact that you will be doing it annually. This couple is hoping our Vegas travel dates mesh at some point
This was definitely a great afternoon – and perfect for me as this was both my first big solo trip and first trip to vegas! I had a great time meeting both of you
This was a great way to meet some very cool people you would normally never have the chance to meet.
Great meeting you both, Nate and Janice! Yeah, it’s definitely nice to build in some social time to your solo Vegas trip. It’s the best of both worlds. You still get to do what you want, when you want most of the time, while still having some fun with others.
Kent, I swear if you guys aren’t in Vegas next time I am, I will be crushed and devastated. I really want to meet you two in person.
Nice post!
Glad to hear it went well!
Thanks Dave!
I’m still trying to figure out my vacation plans for next year. Vegas at this time is on the “want to do” list.
Well, if I can help nudge you in Vegas’s direction, let me know.
