Have you ever noticed that the laws of physics cause time to slow down to half speed the week before you go on vacation? My God, this has been the longest week of my life. But I am finally off to Las Vegas! Woo! I’ll admit, a couple of weeks ago, I wasn’t very excited about this trip. After all, I was just in Las Vegas three months ago. Now, though, I cannot wait for this vacation. Why? Because this trip is going to look very, very different from the last one.
As I mentioned in last week’s post, I’ve had an epiphany about needing more downtime in my life. So this trip is all about downtime, rest and relaxation–you know, a real vacation, not a working vacation. Toward that end, I have not scheduled every minute of every day with high-energy activities. (You have no idea how hard this was for me. Old habits die hard.) Instead, I hope to spend lots of time reading by my hotel pool. I’m going to try to squeeze in some spa time, afternoon tea, and going to a movie (Gravity). Maybe even a nap if I’m lucky.
That said, I won’t be sitting around twiddling my thumbs the whole time. (I am still me, after all.) I have lots of meetups planned. First there’s the Vegas Solo Meetup on Wednesday. I hope if you’re in Las Vegas, you can stop by! I’d love to say hi in person. I’ve also got several one-on-one meetups planned with friends who live in Vegas and some who just happen to be visiting at the same time I am.
The only other thing I have booked is a nighttime Neon Boneyard Tour. FINALLY. Would you believe I’ve been trying to go on a Boneyard tour for the past three years? Every year, it was either booked during the week I was visiting, or it was closed altogether. I’m totally stoked that I’m finally going to get to experience this!
As always, I’ll be tweeting and posting status updates to Facebook while I’m in Vegas–assuming I can get some free wifi somewhere. I only travel with a tablet these days and I’m staying at a hotel that only has wired Internet in the rooms. (Ugh.) To overcome this challenge, I’ve purchased a mobile wireless router to test out in my room. Keep your fingers crossed! I’ll let you know how it turns out.
Despite the fact that I am “winging it” much more on this trip than I normally do, I’m sure I’ll still come home with lots of information–and photos–to share with you. And I still have a ton of content from my July trip to post about in the coming months, too. But this week, I am officially on vacation. See you next week!
